seoul-based furniture designer seungji mun has presented the ‘just cabinet’ collection, in collaboration with samsung electronics. as a part of samsung’s ‘project prism’, the designer has suggested a completely new conception of home appliances, combining samsung’s signature refrigerator range, widely known as ‘bespoke collection’, and a beautiful cabinet designed by himself.

the cabinets by seungji mun are applied as a solid case for the bespoke series, and are produced with carefully selected materials including recycled fabric, wood and metal. in this way the conservative notion of home appliance is revisited and twisted. also, this new type of fridge-cabinet offers a wide range of customising opportunities to customers. arguably the fridge-cabinet shows a strong possibility that a refrigerator can be able to break walls amongst various spaces in home.

seungji mun assures that people can enjoy warm feelings with the ‘furniturised’ refrigerator not only in their kitchen, but also in their living room or individual space. the designer approached this particular project by changing the way we usually think of a refrigerator. ‘I thought that the refrigerator was born as storage and I concentrated on its original function’ he shares. ‘cabinet and refrigerator at this point, have the same identity as home furniture‘.
