MAKHNO studio completes KARPATY Hotel

In the spectacular natural setting of the Carpathian Mountains, Ukrainian MAKHNO Studio has realized a contemporary holiday destination for travelers from and outside of Ukraine. Perched atop the summit, ‘KARPATY Hotel’ captures the magnificence of the Carpathians. For Ukrainians, this region has always been a revered and timeless sanctuary of strength and spirituality, attracting thousands of wanderers seeking a serene place to rejuvenate their souls.

The design team sought to create an architecture that smoothly integrates into its breathtaking natural scenery with minimal intrusion. According to the architects, the hotel is more than just a building; it represents their interpretation of contemporary Ukrainian architecture, fusing elements of the past and future. The untouched, raw surrounding became a source of inspiration to create something that is both simple and organic, yet bold and innovative, reflecting their passion for groundbreaking design.

A Serene Oasis in the Carpathians

From a distance, the KARPATY Hotel is a breathtaking sight to behold. For MAKHNO Studio (see more here), the structure resembles a magnificent liner, sailing through the sky and leaving a trail of clouds in its wake. The curved lines of the hotel seamlessly cut through the rugged mountain range, seeking to become one with the backdrop.

The hotel’s courtyard is home to a curved suspended pool that follows the building’s contour and radiates elegance and sophistication, encircled by luminous stones. The light-colored stones interact with the sunlight to produce a natural illumination that infuses the entire space with a cozy and inviting ambiance.

A stone garden lies at the core of the structure, seeming to have endured since the inception of the Carpathian Mountains. Its architecture mirrors the surrounding peaks, with the roof extending upward towards the sun in a harmonious mountain-like fashion. The garden exudes a sense of timelessness, yet still captivates and inspires awe in all who witness its ancient charm.

Regarding the interior, each room frames its own stunning view through meticulously crafted panoramic windows. A towering hall dominates the space, adding a touch of grandeur to the overall design. The shapes and forms of the hotel were influenced by the natural world. With thorough attention to detail, the team at MAKHNO examined the intricacies of mountain contours and translated their essence into a unique staircase design that harmonizes effortlessly with its environment. The foyer walls are adorned with a 3D decor, imbuing the area with depth and dimension. This striking visual effect was achieved using QUADROPOD, a distinctive 3D tile perfected by the studio itself.
